Yep, my cat (Shift) is one year old now, a lot bigger but… despite all sofas, bean bag, his cat tree, my bed, whatever… the glass fruit bowl is still his bed. This started around October last year and despite the fact that he doesn’t basically fit there anymore, fruit still gets banished systematically and that’s his cold and hard and probably not comfortable (that’s for pussies) bed.

Just a photo I found funny from last weekend. I ended up cooking too much Japanese Curry and Sushi for my birthday dinner and tat was good news for Shift (the cat) in the end. He doesn’t like tuna fish (normal for cat that likes to shower and to sleep in a glass fruit bowl I guess), but it seemed to be OK with all these treats. Next day he was meowing with a “where’s my fancy food?” tone, obviously, and took a while to get back to his normal cat food.

Just right after last post, I reminded myself of something the cat ALWAYS does when I go to the toilet. I almost forgot this because now it is kind of normal. So I took the camera with me before… taking a crap. I know these might not be the ideal pictures to share, but I couldn’t avoid sharing them.

OK, so, apart from sleeping in a fruit bowl (made of glass), my cat uses my pants and boxer shorts as a bed (more hammock) every single time I go to the toilet. It’s only for a few minutes but he’s able to sleep like that sometimes. It’s automatic. As soon as the pants are down, here he goes. And if they are not on the floor, he complains and gets mad, almost as much as when I close the bathroom door. Interesting part of it, when I have guests, he does the same. And most of they know already they have to either keep the door open or close it only after the cat is in, otherwise the cat will be screaming (and scratching) at the door like someone is spanking him. Same applies for shower. He doesn’t get inside, but stays the whole time at the bathtub wall, and you get a cat shadow on the curtain (psycho style, but without the knife).

A few friends asked me why did I stop posting cat videos, Some even asked if the cat was still alive, so here it goes: he’s alive and weird as usual. Theses are just 3 slightly odd things he does that I happened to have on video. In case you are not aware, amongst other not-very-normal things, this cat sleeps in a glass fruit bowl (yes, cold and hard.. everything cats love, right?).

Well, not really sure if I am going to post an odd site every week but this one did catch my attention. A site that sells… Wigs for cats? I must say I am kind of tempted to order the blond one (or maybe the blue) for my cat but he would probably kill me violently during th night if I did that. It kind of reminds me a silly site I found a few years ago, with some japanese guy that sells hats and accessories for cats. Apart from the silly photos of cats (not looking really happy) with those accessories, the “engrish” on that page is hilarious. Worth a look also. Click any of the pics below:

This perfectly normal thing just happened yesterday. I caught the cat trying to sleep under the bananas on the fruit-plate:

This starts to get weird when I took him out of there. He got kind of annoyed:

Then he just jumped on the table again, threw the bananas on the floor and got into the fruit plate again with the “I declare this thing as my territory” posture:

I always had cats and most of them were really smart. But this one is starting to impress me. Today he figured out that moving the mouse with his paws makes the cursor move on the screen (in this case, the wall, since I have the projector connected to my Media Center PC). He actually figured out the connection between the two things since he looks at each other one at a time and then just at the cursor on screen while moving the mouse in small movements. I concluded that since twice this afternoon he moved the mouse cursor to the lower right part of the screen, so he could jump in the wall and reach it as I already posted before. Is this normal? I’ll try to do a video with the full sequence since he did it twice already:

As any normal cat, after a while he got bored and found another use for the computer mouse in the sofa:

And to finish the post, a few pictures of the new toys I got from Ikea yesterday night, after the sailing classes with my nephew and niece. My flat starts to look like a kindergarten. This is my way to avoid that he adopts video cameras, cellphone and other gadgets as his toys:

Shift (the cat) just got a new toy. The video in here he was already in “tired mode” since I was too lazy (and entertained) to pick the camera during main action. Thanks for the gift Xavier, this will hopefully distract him during daytime and probably he will start eating less tea bags and spread less remote controls around the living room. And if I am lucky he will get tired enough to sleep during the night (yes I still wake up once or twice with the cat biting my hair).

I know this one is kind of a cliché and most cats do that at least once but I couldn’t start laughing when I noticed the cat unrolled all the toilet paper and did this mess. This and other things (like sock stealing and remote control tossing and tea-bag eating) are always done during the day while I am at work, since he finally learned that during the night it’s time to sleep (and let me sleep). I still occasionally have the “cat biting my hair” or “cat sleeping on top of my head” at 4am. The second picture is not related but that’s his new welcome home meowing and jumping (in a dog kind of fashion) when I get back to my place.

After 5 days at his new home, my 2 months old cat is already learning tricks (by himself). He always liked my socks, except for the used ones (I wonder why). Today I just caught him stealing socks from my drawer and afterwards found a few socks stocked under my bed (one of his hideouts). I placed them all back in the drawer and as soon as I was out of sight I just heard the drawer again. Obviously he had taken a pair of socks already. I placed the socks again in the drawer and left the camera in place and walked away. This was the result:

My cat went crazy trying to catch the mouse cursor on the wall, while I was on messenger, checking email and doing a few other things in the living room. I sense a lot of useless weird videos within the next few days.

Just posted a few pictures and a video of the first minutes at the new home.
The cat (it’s a boy) still has no name so I am accepting suggestions.

So far possible names will be Gatôo or Gateau (in Ninfa Artemis’ honor of course) or Smirnoff.

[UPDATE]: The final name of the cat is likely to be SHIFT! Why is that? Well, thanks to a computer geek’s suggestion (very appropriate) due to the fact that the cat has a very clear UP ARROW pattern on his back (picture below). Thanks for the idea, Xavier.
